One of Ghanaians Event organising firm, popularly known as Charter House, has recently announced to its cherished individuals that it does not in any way pay foreign artistes or artist outside Ghana to perform at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
In a recent interview which was held with Accra-based Citi FM Friday, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the company(Vodafone Ghana music Award),George Quaye, disclosed it at the said interview that foreign artistes who perform at the annual awards show do it for free with no strings attached.
This, Mr Quaye explanation he made it known to them that it was possibly because the foreign artistes however knew that it was a convention all over the world not to in by any means charge money to perform at award shows.
His comment follows complaints by some Ghanaian musicians, including Ghana's Dancehall Artist Shatta Wale and bet award winner Sarkodie, that Charter House possibly pays foreign artistes a greater amount of money than as compared to their Ghanaian counterparts at home to perform at the VGMA.
In addition to Mr Quaye statement : He also said “All the international acts that are coming, none of them is taking a dime. What we do is we cater for their flight,thus they moving from their various destination to Ghana, we also give them accommodation during their stay and a per diem and in total it doesn’t as a matter of fact goes beyond 1,500 Ghana cedis or at worst case scenario 2,000 Ghana cedis…because they have it in mind that in their countries and all over the world it’s convention, you do not charge to perform at award shows.
“However if it’s turns out to be a music concert that we are organizing like the Hope City concert with Chris Brown, yes definitely you will pay top dollar.”
“There is a lot of perception that goes round. There are issues that we at all cost cannot by anyway means run away from. This is our country and we do honour and cherish our artistes so much. But those are just perception but I’m sure if they come close enough eventually that perception would be robbed off.”
This year’s VGMA awards has been scheduled for Saturday. And there are a lot of surprises and excitement on that night .Charter House in conclusion promised its viewers to stay claim and expect nothing but the best from them.
